Yahaya Bello Commissions Information Centre, Harps on Infrastructural Development

Kogi State Government has assured of a world class system and infrastructure through the adoption of the State Enterprise Geographic Information system (KOGIS).

Governor Yahaya Bello gave the assurance while Commissioning KOGIS in Lokoja.

Governor Bello said his administration in its bid to realise the aspirations of the people for growth and development would ensure a land administration system that would promote internal confidence among the people and commercial enterprises.

He described land as a source of wealth, hence the need to adopt modern information and communication technology for its records  and ownership.

Governor Bello explained that significant revenue  have been lost due to inefficient manual processes of land documentation noting that the introduction of KOGIS would increase  transparency, stimulate depend able results, centralized all land records and decentralized service delivery, create framework for security and ensure information for policy, planning and advance physical development.

He urged the people of the state to optimise the opportunities in KOGIS by subscribing to its packages which includes; the Landed Property Owner’s Express that will enhance an approved building plan with a Certificate of  Occupancy with fifteen security features and the Title Recertification and Revalidation Exercise  for a new and secured certificate of occupancy and ensure land transactions are duly registered.

Governor Bello said the sensitisation on KOGIS will be taken to all corporate , religious and traditional institutions and assure of thirty percent reduction in service charge as well as the privilege to pay in instalment.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Works, Land and Urban Development, Mr Abubarkar Sadiq described GIS as a land management system that process, analyze, store and retrieve land data electronically adding that the SMBI Professional Services Limited which is in charge of the project have demonstrated competence in the discharge of its duty.

Also Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Finance, Ashiwaju Ashiru Idris said proper documentation of land will avail the owners the privilege to secure loans facilities at the commercial banks with the use of the Prof of their transaction with KOGIS as collateral.

Similarly the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Land Matters, Hajiah Maryam Ladi Ibrahim appreciated the Governor for having the political will to establish KOGIS and emphasized that the digitalisation of land administration would ensure proper monitoring, distribution and provision of social amenities to the People of the state.
