OGSG WARNS AGAINST CONSUMPTION OF CONTAMINATED OATS
The Ogun State Government has called the attention of members of the public to contaminated Quaker Oats in circulation within the State, as its consumption may cause serious health damages.
The Permanent Secretary,Ministry of Health, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, had it that the Oats named Quaker Quinoa Granola Bar chocolate nut(medley) and Yoghurt (fat/nut) had been banned by the Singaporean Food and Confectionery Protection Unit in Singapore last month.
The report also had it that the two products had been contaminated by Listeria’s Monolytogenes which can cause fatal infection in young children as well as weakening the immune system.
According to the release, the two Oats as reported by the Singapore Government are susceptible to short-time health condition such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, miscarriage and still birth among pregnant women.
Warning members of the public of the implication of consumption of the product, Dr. Aigoro said the State Government would continue to enlighten the people of Ogun State via electronic and print media as efforts would also be made to get rid of the products in the market
