WORKERS DAY: JCI-Aso Hosts Baba and Yara Novelty Games

In the spirit of love and peaceful coexistence, the Junior Chambers International- ASO, one of the local organisations of JCI in the Federal Capital Territory played host to Northern Chapters’ Sports events popularly known as Baba and Yara Novelty Games to mark May Day, a day set aside to celebrate the Nigerian workforce.
The sports get-together which was held at the Hockey pitch of the Abuja National Stadium had representatives from all chapters of the organization all over the country.
In a brief interview with Journalists, the National President of JCI Nigeria, JCI Senator Richard Ojo pointed out that sports can be a veritable platform to spread love, unity and help the society.
“Peace, unity and love are the input of sports to national development as they are essential environmental factor for socioeconomic development in any nation. It is not a gainsaying that where there is peace, people abound to realise their full potential. It is against this background that we chose to use sports get-together to celebrate this year May Day.”  He said.
Ojo further stated that the sport gathering is in furtherance of the mission of the organisation in Nigeria which is to raise young leaders, spread the message of love and peace in the society as well as alleviating the sufferings of the poor.
He maintained that the gathering was organized to share among members, the spirit of sportsmanship. “We now involve our families and friends in this get-together so that we bring together our children, wives and husbands to come together and have fun,” he said.
The group also use the medium to educate friends who may want to join the organization on the activities and the vision of JCI.
According to him, the 2017 JCI-Aso President, Aliyu Yahya told reporters that despite the programme being a Get-together, medals and consolation prizes were given to the participants of some of the sporting activities.
The event involved all JCI local organisations all over the north with some members from Lagos and other parts of the south participating in football, badminton, table tennis, and some traditional sports.
