Why Buhari May Not Endorse Fayemi For Ekiti Guber Race
By Kenny Admola,ADO-EKITI/ In his move to draw support from the people of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been spreading the rumour that he is being supported by President Mohammadu Buhari in his ambition to contest for the 2018 governorship race in Ekiti State. But in line with the anti corruption policy of his administration we have confirmed that President Buhari has made it clear to Dr. Fayemi that he would not travel to Ekiti state to campaign for him if he wins the APC Primary on the ground that he has been charged to court for corruption by the Ekiti state government.
When Dr. Fayemi informed the President that the charge against him by the Ayo Fayose governments was politically motivated he was advised to take urgent steps to quash the corruption charges. President Buhari reminded Dr. Fayemi that he did not travel to Kogi and Bayelsa to campaign for the APC governorship candidates- Audu and Timprey Silva as they were standing trial for corruption at the time.
Dr. Fayemi has therefore entered into a deal with Governor Fayose to withdraw the charge of stealing N2 billion pending at the high court sitting in Ado Ekiti. Based on the secret pact, the Ekiti state government has asked the court officials not to serve the charges on Dr. Fayemi.
But following the threat made by Dr. Fayemi during his declaration that he would prosecute Mr. Fayose if he wins the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State, the Ekiti state government obtained an order of court last week to serve the charges on him by substituted means by pasting them on the wall of his country home at Isan Ekiti.
But in order to prevent his arraignment in the court Dr. Fayemi has surrounded his house with about 20 mobile policemen and thugs who have made it impossible for the court officials to paste the charges on the house.
But the Ekiti State government has already sent a copy of the charges against Dr. Fayemi to President Buhari. The People’s Democratic Party has also included the name of Dr. Fayemi in the list of looters which has been published and widely circulated.
Unlike some people who have gone to court or who have threatened to sue the federal government for publishing their names in the Looters List Dr. Fayemi has not denied his indictment by the Ekiti state government.
Since President Buhari has made it clear to the APC leaders that he would never raise the hand of any candidate who is standing trial in any court for corruption the delegates in Ekiti stand a risk if they vote Dr. Fayemi in the Primary scheduled for May 5, 2018. Because of the decision of President Buhari which has been communicated to Dr. Fayemi he is under pressure to withdraw from the race.
