NAFDAC At 25 To Be Celebrated In Lagos & Abuja With Book Launch

By Wale Abideen/ Managing Editor/ The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has set up series of events to mark its 25 years of existence. A statement signed by Jimoh Abubakar, the agency’s Director of Public Affairs stated that “The forthcoming Silver Jubilee celebration and book launch is a golden opportunity for NAFDAC to chronicle and celebrate the yeoman efforts of NAFDAC leadership particularly the late iconic Heroine, Professor Dora Akunyili and some frontline stakeholders in shaping the destiny of the Agency. It is also a moment of stock-taking and reflection on NAFDAC of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”.

 

NAFDAC was established by Decree No.15 of 1993 as amended by decree No.19 of 1999 and now the NAFDAC Act Cap No.1 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (NFN) 2004 to control and regulate the manufacture, importation, distribution, advertisement, sale and use of drugs, processed food, cosmetics, packaged water, medical devices, chemicals and detergents.

By virtue of this statutory mandate, NAFDAC in the last 25 years has played a pivotal role in the commanding heights of the non-oil sector of Nigerian economy particularly the pharmaceutical, food and agro-allied industries. The Agency has also contributed immensely to the overall healthcare delivery system and human development capital.

 

NAFDAC has emerged as one of the top 20 Medicines Regulatory Agencies in the world and remains a shining model in Sub-Sahara Africa. This remarkable feat has been achieved because of your goodwill and moral support as well as encouragement of other well-meaning Nigerians.

The 25 years anniversary will also features book launch titled; NAFDAC AT 25: HISTORICAL AND REGULATORY ANTECEDENTS jointly edited by the agency’s Director General, DG Professor Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye and Director of Public Affairs, Jimoh Abubakar. Notable Nigerians including the Vice President. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, Minister of Health, Prof. Isaec Adewole and host of others are expecting to grace the occasion which will be held in separately days and venue in Abuja and Lagos. LAGOS – Date: –       29th November, 2018

Venue: –        Lagos City Hall, Catholic Mission, Lagos (Near St. Nicholas Hospital)
