“Killer Police Officers Must Be Disciplined According To The Law” NGIJ, CHRSJ, PVC-Naija Others
By Wale Abydeen// The recurrence of extra judicial killings in Nigeria has become so worrisome that a mass protest is looming against the Nigerian Police. Aside that, many Nigerians are yarning for strict disciplinary measures that would be executed according to the constitutions of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
SECURITY MONITOR gathers that, the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists, NGIJ has assigned 15 investigative journalists to closely monitor the prosecutions of all recent cases against trigger happy police officers in the country.
The Guild in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Veron Adeyemi Obadimu, stated that “it’s our responsibility to ensure there is sanity in our country, that impunity which seems to be the hallmark of our system is challenge in all fronts. We must also ensure there is sanity among security agencies and any public office holders. This is why NGIJ assign investigative journalists to closel monitor the prosecution of the killer of Kolade Johnson and other police officers involved in the abuse of office, recent extra judicial killings and any other jungle justice”
In this vein, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman A civil rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), has declared his total support to the proposed plan mass protest from by well meaning Nigerians against the extra- judicial killings by the men of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Lagos State and its
environs, particularly over the recent illegal killings of late Kolade Johnson in the Onipetesi area of Lagos on Sunday.
The activist also demand for the enforcement of death by hanging/firing squad or life imprisonment for any culprit of such a dastard act as stipulated in the Force Order No. 237. The the law according to Comrade Suleiman stated that it was “illegal and unlawful for any security agent to involve in the extra-judicial killing of fellow citizen he is empowered to protect”.
Comrade Sulaiman, in a statement to newsmen calls on well-meaning citizens of the country to rise up in struggle to save Nigerians from re occurrence killings and untimely death perpetuated by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and Nigeria Police as a whole by joining the mass protest against the extra-judicial killings of the Nigeria Police.
He described the dastard act of the men of Nigeria Police as illegal,
unconstitutional, unlawful,evil,ungodly, anathema,anti-people and crime against God and humanity
Sulaiman who doubles as Convener, Save Lagos Group (SLG) stressed that the security agents in the country should ready to respect Section 33, 34 and 36 of the amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi, President PVC-Naija called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop paying lip service to the ongoing illegal and unlawful killings of innocent citizens in various parts of the country. Akinyemi added that impunity is a product of injustice and bad leadership.
The killing of Kolade Johson in the hands of a police inspector and the shooting and killing of a young innocent girl in Adamo area, Ikorudu-Lagos has compelled well meaning Nigerians to renew the demands for a total disbandment of SARS in Nigeria.
