Ampz, a sport tech company has launched its mobile app and awarded sports scholarships to 16 young talents in Lagos
This was announced at an event tagged MatchMania designed to be an annual talent showcase for grassroots sports first in Nigeria and then Africa in the nearest future.
According to Co-Founder/ CMO Brenda Nwagwu “we have seen a huge gap in the African sports market and AMPZ is here to not only bridge that gap but also power the dreams of the next generation of African stars together with our partners”. A team of promising talents from the AMPZ platform entertained the crowd in games against MPAC Sports and Crest Football Academy [formerly cowbell]. At the end of the games, 16 out of the 24 finalists in football and basketball proceeded to an all-expense paid development program with partners including The Future Academy and Insurance coverage by Hygeia HMO. Other highlights of the day included the Dominos Pizza rush and the half time show with musical performances.
In an interview with Co-Founder/CEO AbdulJabbar Momoh, he described AMPZ as the “LinkedIn for sports in Africa with a mission to connect 5,000 African talents to their dream opportunities in the next 5 years”. According to him “there is an estimated 78 million connected sports participants aged (10-24 years) exposed to exploitation including trafficking due to lack of access to verified information and platforms to connect with the right audience.  Many African kids and youths believe sports is their ticket to a better life but are confronted with these challenges”.
The AMPZ mobile app allows sports talents to profile themselves, share their data, upload their content and get connected to verified opportunities and scouts. With this solution, AMPZ hopes to usher the African sports ecosystem into a new era using technology.  The app is now available on Google Play Store and open to sports talents in Nigeria while the team gets ready to cater for a pan-african audience.
The lead sponsor company, Hygeia’s Head, Business development and Strategy, Obinna Ukachukwu said,” our organisation is very pleased to partner ampz in providing scholarships to young African talents starting with Nigerians. We are committed to the development of young people towards achieving their full potentials, especially in sports. We will be sponsoring the 16 winners for the development programs.
We have concluded plans to sponsor the scholars in fulfilment of our commitment to youth sports development. Young people are the future of the nation and connecting them with the required opportunities and platforms for growth and development remains important for us, he added.
