Top Yoruba Monarch, Alaafin of Oyo Is Dead

The Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, has passed on at the age of 83.
Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi died in the late hours of Friday, 22 April, 2022 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
SECURITY MONITOR scoopes that the demised monarch is the third from the Alowodu Ruling House.
The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday, 23 April, 2022 and traditional rites began.
He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.

The late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi was born on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House, Alaafin Adeyemi was crowned on November 18, 1970, following the passing onto glory of Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I.

Oba Ladigbolu was from the Agunloye Ruling House and with the passing of Alaafin Adeyemi, who was also known as Iku Baba Yeye, it is now the turn of the Agunloye Ruling House to produce the next Oyo monarch.
