Condemnations As Ekweremadu’s Son Holds Elaborate Wedding In Abuja Despite His Parents Being In Jail
By Ike Farooq/ABUJA// All Progressives Congress (APC) , Joe Igbokwe, has tackled Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, the son of convicted Nigerian senator, Ike Ekweremadu, for holding an elaborate wedding ceremony despite his parent being in prison.
The wedding which was held at the Basilica of Grace, Anglican Communion, Gudu District Abuja was attended by several politicians, including Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections; Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker; Dino Melaye, a former senator; and David Umahi, former Ebonyi governor, among others.
Three former senate presidents; Anyim Pius Anyim, David Mark and Bukola Saraki were also in attendance.
Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, recently appointed Lloyd as a commissioner in the state.
The wedding ceremony is coming three months after the former senate president and his wife, Beatrice, were convicted in the United Kingdom over organ trafficking.
Recall that Ekweremadu, on the 23rd of June 2022, was charged with conspiring to arrange the travel of a 21-year-old boy, David Ukpo, from Lagos into the UK to harvest organs.
On 23rd of March, 2023, Ekweremadu, his wife, and Dr Obeta were convicted of conspiring to exploit the boy for his kidney.
Reacting to Ekweremadu’s son’s wedding ceremony, Joe Igbokwe, in a post on his Facebook page, said the event would have been held on a low-key, considering the predicament of the parents.
According to the APC chieftain, Llody would have waited till his parents regained freedom before organising such an event.
He wrote: “If I were to be Ekeremmadu’s son, I would not have staged this elaborate wedding ceremony with my father and mother in prison. I would have done a low-key marriage ceremony and waited till my parents are free. This generation scares me stiff”
Aside Igbokwe, prominent other Nigerians, clergymen and activists who bare their minds to SECURITY MONITOR opine that Lord’s elaborate wedding ceremony was an indication that he shows no remorse to his parents predicament.
