RESIDENTS LAMENTS, CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE OF STATE GOVERNMENT ON CONTINOUS TRUCK CRASHES AT IKOTUN ROUNDABOUT
By Olayiwola Ibrahim // Four people have been reportedly involved in a serious fatal accidents on Wednesday, at ikotun roundabout Area of Alimosho in Lagos State.
The accident was attributed to a container that fell off a truck ladden with condemned iron rods, which trapped the four victims who sells on the road side.
The crash, according to a statement issued by the Commandant of KAI, Mrs Oladuni Ilesanmi, was also blamed on dangerous driving leading to loss of controland brake failure.
Commandant Ilesanmi who led the rescue team was said to have tried to save the lives of the victims, said they were rushed to the hospital due to the high impact of the injury sustained.
She empathized more on the cause of the accident, stating that the market stakeholders as well the kingmens, were a contributor to the traders who are not obeying the rules of State because they are the omes stationing them and also get paid by the space giving them on the road side.
Ilesanmi commended the Chairman of the Local Government, Lasisi Adesanya, the Nigerian police force, Dpo Ikotun CSP
Adolf Ugwu, the Lastma officer, Lasema and aome good satkeholders for there joint efforts and support in ensuring enforcement and safety on a free flow traffic around the axis.
She noted that the only way to profer a lasting solution to the menace caused by the traders selling on the road side is to build a low cost shops for the masses at a lowest price. She noted that the need for garages for buses and maruwa parking also needs to be considered to stop any further occurrence of accidents.
The Zonal Commandant Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Mrs Dele Folashade, said the accident was due to high speed, which made the driver loat control whike approaching the corner.
Folashade said, the need for quick intervention from the Lagos State Government in providing garages and also to caution Truck owner and drivers on the need to check the brakes to avoid any form of brake failures.
Speaking furtherly, she noted that this accident cases has to be curtailed because it has became a norms within the axis.
One of the Lastma Officials, Mrs Ige Iheanacho aslo said that the causes of such accident are mainly caused by the over load.
Mrs Ige said that when the load is over loaded more than tge pressure of the brake, it can result to brake failure, she enjoined the Lagos state Government to act upon the any Trucks found over loaded.
A tow truck was contacted to pull off the truck to ease traffic flow and a crane was also contacted to remove the container off the roaod with the presence of the Lasema team.
Meanwhile, a resident living around the axis who doesnt want his name mentioned, Charges the State Government to deal with those selling on the road side, the lout begging for money and taking some drivers to drive through one way, and also to place a total ban and strict measures on maruwa, buses, and okada who discharge passengers on the road.
He called upon the Commisioner of Police in Lagos, CP Fakayode Adegoke to clamp down on the Traffic warden Officer of the Nigerian Police Force using civilians as partners to extort money from Maruwa and commercial buses each turn they embark on.
The residents claimed that they are also contributing to the traffic situation face on a daily basis in Ikotun.
