Egunje Spoils Lagos: LNSC, LASEMA, Fire Fighters In Joint Bribery Operation, Assault Security Monitor Reporter

By Wale Abydeen/LAGOS// House Number 9, Oboshi street, off Governor road in Ikotun area of Lagos was on flame by noon on Sunday 7th, April 2024 when Operatives of Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Services gathered to carry out rescue operations.

Although no life lost but residents of the burnt properties lost fortunes. “I couldn’t bring out any meaningful item from my flat’, A resident said while talking to SECURITY MONITOR.

The affected residents were still agonizing over their tragedy and to the dismay of lawyers, civil activists and newsmen at the scene, the rescue workers insisted they must ‘be bribed’ for their efforts.

The fire was said to have erupted from an electrical surge. The residents of the area had called on rescue workers from the state government. Oladapo Akinyele, one of the affected landlords raised the alert when the rescue workers insisted he must pay.

 

Security Monitor ‘s Ibrahim Olayiwola, who was at the scene of the incidence spoke with a lawyer, Mrs Ali and an affected landlord, Mr. Oladapo who both expressed anger over what they term as ‘Egunje spoils Lagos syndrome. “So, you can’t get anything from government in Lagos for free’, the lawyer said as she insisted she won’t bribe the rescue workers.

The rescue officials were however caught in camera negotiating Bribery with the owners of burnt properties.

Two officials of LNSC; Olaoye Samson and Adeleye adekunle and their team leader who covered his uniform with a jacket were captured in a cameral during the bribe negotiation.
When they noticed the presence of a reporter, they put on an angry posture, launches an attack on the reporter. The corrupt officials also seek the attention of touts as one of them Olaoye Samson claimed he’s an indigene of Igando and that he will deal with our reporter, Ibrahim Olayiwola.

The said Samson Olaoye led some street touts within the vicinity to physically harassed Olayiwola but he was able to be rescued by the landlords of thr area who rushed to the scene and whisked him to safety.

A Lagos famous activist and former National Secretary of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, CDHR, Ghenha Soloki who vouches to press charges against the corrupt officials called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwolu, LASEMA boss, Dr. Osanyintolu Oke, the Fire Brigade General Manager, Mrs Margaret Adeoye, as well as the General Manager LNSC Mr Ifalade Oyekan to please bring these culprits to book so as to serve as deterrent to others.
