Remi Tinubu should acknowledge husband’s role in current woes – Dr. Adetogun

A US-based Nigerian academic specializing in quantum physics, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) evaluation, and research, Adeyemo Adetogun, PhD, has offered his perspective on recent remarks made by Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s president.
Dr. Adetogun expressed concerns regarding the economic challenges facing Nigeria and urged the government to take responsibility for addressing the current situation.
In a submission shared via WhatsApp, Dr. Adetogun discussed the economic hardships that many Nigerians are experiencing. He highlighted the rise in fuel prices, which has contributed to increased living costs, and linked this to the removal of fuel subsidies. While the policy might have been aimed to stabilize the economy, he noted, it has in reality imposed significant financial strain on the public, particularly due to a lack of alternative support mechanisms or sufficient social safety net.
He further noted that Nigeria faces multiple security challenges, including kidnappings and other forms of violence, which hinder investment and business, worsening the economic landscape.
Dr. Adetogun also pointed to the depreciation of the naira and inflation as factors exacerbating the difficulties for many Nigerians, with imported goods becoming more expensive and contributing to rising food prices.
He called for a review of the government’s tax and economic policies, suggesting that current approaches have placed undue pressure on businesses and citizens alike. He emphasized the need for job creation and infrastructural development as essential steps towards improving the economic outlook.
Dr. Adetogun referred to Mrs. Tinubu’s recent defense of her husband’s government.
It would be recalled that while speaking at the Palace of Ooni of Ife on Thursday, the First Lady said the Tinubu administration is not the cause of the current situation.
He advised that a more effective path forward would involve acknowledging the shortcomings of current policies and implementing reforms focused on the needs of the population.
Dr. Adetogun’s continued engagement with national issues, despite residing abroad, reflects his commitment to Nigeria and his desire to contribute to meaningful change in the country.
