By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The 2nd phase of the conference organized by Daaru Naim Sharia for Science and Islamic Studies, held at the prestigious Radisson Blue Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, witnessed a remarkable gathering of esteemed guests internationally and locally, including the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr. Hamzat Kadiri.

In his keynote address, Dr. Kadiri emphasized the importance of unity in Islam, urging Muslim clerics to promote harmony and understanding among the faithful.

He also highlighted a pressing concern – the alarming rate of marital breakdowns in Muslim communities.

The Deputy Governor revealed that investigations into reports of widows in Muslim communities often yielded surprising results.

Instead of finding women who had lost their husbands, they discovered that many of these women were still married, but had become estranged from their spouses due to various reasons.

Dr. Kadiri charged the clerics to take action, working to address the root causes of these marital issues and promoting a culture of reconciliation and understanding.

He also encouraged them to share their findings and fatwas (Islamic rulings) with the State Government, to facilitate their interpretation and incorporation into the state’s constitution and governance.

Sheik Imran Eleha, in his appreciation message, commended Dr. Kadiri for his thought-provoking address and his commitment to promoting unity and marriage harmony in Muslim communities.

He praised the Deputy Governor’s efforts to engage with Muslim clerics and scholars, seeking solutions to the challenges facing Muslim families.

The conference, which brought together scholars, clerics, and community leaders, served as a platform for meaningful discussions and reflections on the importance of unity, marriage, and family harmony in Islam.

The Islamic Scholar and Educationist, Sheikh Abdul Mojeed Mojeed Imran Eleha ugres the Federal Government of Nigeria to create a body of Council that would Regulate the passage of Fatwas.

Imran added this will help to reduce misinformation and misinterpretation of Fatwas from the unqualified Clerics.
