MAN OF CREGY BEHIND BARS FOR SLEEPING WITH A MINOR

A 56-year-old church pastor, Mccrystal Charlie, has been arrested by police at Mpingu in Lilongwe for allegedly having sexual intercourse with and impregnating a 16-year-old girl.

According to Lilongwe police spokesperson Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Charlie, who is the pastor of Kadziyo Disciple Church, met the girl in May last year when she would often visit the church premises to fetch water from a borehole.

Chigalu stated that Charlie proposed a love affair to the girl, and in December, after the girl’s grandmother suspected she was pregnant, the girl confessed that Charlie was responsible.

“A medical examination at Kamuzu Central Hospital confirmed the 21-week pregnancy,” said Chigalu.

He said Charlie, who is separated from his wife, claimed that he and the girl had agreed to get married after the pregnancy was revealed, but the girl’s relatives objected due to her age.

“As a result, the police were involved, and Charlie has been taken to court to face charges of having sexual intercourse with a child.”

He is from Chilembwe Village, Traditional Authority Tengani in Nsanje District.
