LAWMA SERVICE FAILURES DRIVE LAGOS RESIDENTS TO CART PUSHERS

By Olayiwola Ibrahim // Lagos residents have been expressing their preference for cart pushers over the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Private Sector Partnership (PSP) operators due to the ineffectiveness of the latter in ensuring prompt refuse evacuation.

Residents in various areas, including FESTAC, Dopemu, Shasha, and Ago Palace Way, have complained about LAWMA’s inconsistent and unreliable waste collection services.

Some of the issues mentioned include LAWMA’s failure to show up on scheduled collection days, delayed responses, and the requirement for residents to be present during waste collection.

These challenges have led residents to rely on cart pushers, who are readily available and efficient, despite the potential environmental hazards associated with their services.

In response to these concerns, the Director of Public Affairs at LAWMA, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, emphasized the agency’s commitment to improving waste management practices and ensuring timely waste collection.

LAWMA plans to enforce environmental laws, strengthen PSP operations, and promote the Adopt-a-Bin initiative to address waste challenges.
