APPOINTMENT OF PROF. ALARO AS CHAIRMAN OF TAKAFUL COUNCIL IS COMMENDABLE’, SAYS IMAM MASHOOD DAGBO
By Muhammad Awal/ILORIN// The appointment of Professor Abdulrazzaq AbdulMajeed Alaro, mni, as the Chairman of the Takaful (Islamic Insurance). The Advisory Council of the National Insurance Commission of Nigeria (NAICOM) is not only a perfect fit cap and a round beg in a round hole, but a commendable gesture. This was the position of Imam Yusuf Mashood Dagbo, the Chief Imam of GGDSS Central Mosque, Okesuna, Ilorin, kwara state capital.
Imam Dagbo describes Professor Alaro as an unmatched expertise and experienced, worthy and most qualified foremost professor of Islamic Law with focus on Islamic Financial Transactions, Banking, Insurance and Capital Market in Nigeria today.

Professor Alaro
Imam Dagbo who is a famous Islamic cleric in Ilorin and the Director, Yumad Consults, specializes in Marriage Counselling, Event Organization, Public Presentation referred to Propfessor Alaro as an international scholar who bagged most of his academic qualifications outside the soil of Nigeria.

Not only that, the Professor Alaro also pursed another Master’s Degree in 2006 and Doctoral Degree in Islamic Law of Finance and Banking respectively from Omdurman University, Sudan in 2013, both with distinctions. Further to that attainment, he is also a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which he obtained in 2016. He is also a Shariah Consultant and Internationally Certified Arbitrator”, Imam Dagbo said.

He had acquired national and international awards and certificates and he also belongs to many professional bodies, to mention but a few; he is an awardee of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Nigeria (mni), FIFP, FCPA, M.IoD, MCIArb, CIAE. As an academic, he has published papers in reputable national and international journals and delivered papers in conferences across the world. As highest ranked status in academic, he delivered the 196th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria in 2021 as the first ever Professor of Islamic Law of Banking and Finance in the entire West Africa”.
Prior to this appointment, Prof. Alaro is an advisor/consultant to the Central Bank of Nigeria, the National Insurance Commission, the Debt Management Office, the Securities & Exchange Commission, and the National Pension Commission, among many. Most recently in 2023, He won the “Most Outstanding Alumnus in Intellectual Impact” award, from the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia upon which the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed and honoured him for it in his Office.
