The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly beating his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi, to death during a domestic dispute over Ramadan meal preparations.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakili, the tragic incident occurred on March 1, 2025, at about 11:30 pm in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College, Bauchi.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that an argument erupted between the suspect and his wife over food ingredients and fruits for breaking their fast. The dispute escalated, and the suspect allegedly used a cane to assault her, causing her to collapse,” Wakili stated.
Neighbors rushed Wasila to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.
“The suspect is currently in custody, and the cane used in the assault has been recovered as evidence. The victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary, pending an autopsy,” Wakili added.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, condemned the incident and assured the public that justice would be served.
“This tragic case highlights the dangers of domestic violence. We urge families to resolve conflicts peacefully and encourage residents to report any form of domestic abuse. Violence within the home is a serious crime with severe consequences,” Muhammad stated.
The police have launched a full investigation into the matter as legal proceedings are expected to follow.
