By Olayiwola Ibrahim // In a major political move, Major Dr. Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, has officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Al-Mustapha, who was a presidential aspirant in the 2023 general elections, is widely recognized for his extensive security background and political influence.

His decision to join the SDP comes amid a wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

This development follows the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who also joined the SDP earlier this week after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The growing shift toward the SDP signals a strategic repositioning by key political figures as they seek new platforms to regain influence in the country’s evolving political landscape.

Political analysts suggest that Al-Mustapha’s entry into the SDP could strengthen the party’s foothold, particularly in northern Nigeria, given his background and connections.

His move also fuels speculation about his future political ambitions and the role he might play in shaping the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
