By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has formally notified the Kano State Police Command of his plans to proceed with the traditional Sallah Durbar celebrations at the end of Ramadan.
In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the Emir’s Private Secretary, Abdullahi Haruna Kwaru, confirmed that all necessary arrangements had been finalized for the festivities, which are set to take place at the end of March 2025.
The celebrations will feature Hawan Sallah, Hawan Daushe, and Hawan Nassarawa on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days of Shawwal 1446 AH, followed by a grand cultural event on the fourth day.
Kwaru noted that this year’s Durbar holds special significance as it marks the five-year anniversary of the Emir’s ascension to the throne.
The purpose of this letter is to formally notify the security agencies in Kano State, particularly the Police Force, that this year’s Sallah events coincide with His Highness’ five-year anniversary on the throne of his forefathers, with the assurance that all activities will be conducted peacefully, the letter stated.
He expressed hopes for a peaceful and successful celebration, praying for protection, good health, and harmony in society.
The Emir’s office also sought the cooperation of security agencies to ensure a smooth and secure event.
However, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed all four state Emirates to begin preparations for the Sallah Durbar Celebration, ensuring that citizens and visitors fully enjoy the festive period.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed that Sallah Durbar is a deeply rooted tradition where residents wear new clothes, gather to watch their Emirs on horseback, and exchange greetings.
He assured the public that his administration would not allow any adversaries to disrupt this cherished cultural practice.
The Governor also emphasized that all security agencies would be fully engaged to provide maximum protection during the celebrations.
