Chief Imam of Maru, Two Sons Killed by Bandits in Zamfara

By James Ajibade// The Chief Imam of the First Jumu’at Central Mosque in Maru, headquarters of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Malam Salisu Suleiman Liman, has been killed by bandits alongside his two sons.

 

The tragic incident follows their abduction during a midnight raid on Thursday, February 13, 2025. The attack, which lasted for about two hours, saw several residents kidnapped, including a newlywed couple and other individuals.

 

The newlyweds, Muhammad Suleiman and his wife, Balkisu, were abducted on the first night after their wedding ceremony.

 

Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the killings on Tuesday, April 29, revealing that the bandits murdered the Imam and his family members while still in captivity.

 

Meanwhile, Nigerian Tracker reports that during the colonial era, Maru town was a hub of Islamic scholarship, with notable northern intellectuals such as Sheikh Abubakar Gumi and Malam Aminu Kano serving as teachers in local schools.
