FCMB: SUSPECTED ROBBER CAUGHT INSIDE CEILING, HACKS BANK DATABASE

By Olayiwola Ibrahim / Lagos // A man was caught hiding in the ceiling of a First City Monument Bank FCMB, branch after allegedly attempting to hack into the bank’s systems.

He entered the bank during business hours, locked himself in the restroom, and climbed into the ceiling, where he remained hidden until the next morning.

When staff arrived, they found the main door locked from the inside and, after forcing it open, discovered the suspect hiding above the ceiling panels.

The suspect’s attempt to hack the system was reportedly thwarted, and no funds were lost or customer data compromised.

However, the incident has raised concerns about the bank’s security protocols.

In a viral video, the suspect was seen being beaten by security operatives, including Nigerian Police Force personnel, after being apprehended.

The police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the officers’ actions as unprofessional and promised a thorough investigation.

This incident is not the first time FCMB has faced a security breach.

In 2020, hackers stole N900 million from the bank by secretly installing spying software on its computers and studying the staff’s methods to move money into their accounts.

Seven suspects were charged in connection with the incident, but it’s unclear if anyone has been convicted.

According to report, FCMB has not released an official statement, but internal sources confirm no funds were lost or customer data compromised.
