FEDERAL HIGH COURT RULES AGAINST NNAMDI KANU’S HOSPITAL TRANSFER REQUEST, ORDERS MEDICAL EVALUATION
By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Federal High Court in Abuja has made a significant ruling regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s health and ongoing trial.
The court has ordered the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to set up a panel of medical experts to evaluate Nnamdi Kanu’s health condition.
The panel will include a cardiologist, a neurologist, and the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital.
They have 8 days to submit their report, which will guide the court’s decision on whether Kanu should be transferred from the DSS medical facility to the National Hospital.
The panel can use any hospital in the country for the assessment.
The court has dismissed Kanu’s application to quash the seven-count charge of terrorism and treasonable felony brought against him.
Justice James Omotosho ruled that there’s enough evidence for Kanu to defend himself.
The court has ordered Kanu to open his defense, with the next hearing scheduled for October 8.
Kanu’s legal team argued that his health has deteriorated significantly while in DSS custody and that he’s not receiving adequate medical attention.
The prosecution opposed the transfer request, citing security concerns and claiming the DSS medical facility is equipped to handle Kanu’s health needs.
