By Morris Nor// Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has welcomed a delegation of the Kaduna State Forum of PDP Local Government Chairmanship Candidates (2025) into the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing their move as “a bold and patriotic step toward rescuing Nigeria from its current decay.”

The delegation, led by Barrister Ibrahim Usman, paid a courtesy visit to Atiku earlier on Thursday. Usman, who himself was a contender in the local council polls, recounted how he and many others were allegedly robbed of victory in what he described as “a compromised and undemocratic election process” conducted under the current administration in Kaduna State.

In his remarks, Atiku said he was not surprised by their experience, noting that “anti-democratic tendencies have become the defining feature of the Tinubu-led APC government both at the federal and state levels.”

> “Their experience, as narrated, did not come to me as a surprise. Anti-democratic tendencies are the hallmark of this Tinubu-led APC government. What is important, however, is that these individuals have seen a legitimate reason to join our mission under the ADC-led opposition coalition,” Atiku stated.

He emphasized that the growing wave of discontent among Nigerians reflects a national realization that the current administration has failed to deliver on governance, economic stability, and security.

“Not only political stakeholders but great numbers of citizens are increasingly agreeing that this country has never been this bad. I am indeed glad that these patriotic individuals have chosen to identify with our cause to rescue Nigeria,” he added.

Atiku reiterated his call for unity among opposition parties and Nigerians of conscience, urging more citizens to join the coalition in what he described as “a historic national rescue mission.”

“The task before us is beyond politics. It is about saving our country from total collapse. I encourage more citizens to come on board, and together, this rescue mission will be accomplished,” he said.

The visit by the Kaduna PDP candidates is seen as another signal of deepening disillusionment within opposition ranks over the conduct of local elections and governance under the APC, and a growing push for a united front ahead of future national engagements.
