By Olaywiola Ibrahim // In a landmark and resolute move during the 2025 National Convention held in Ibadan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several high-profile figures, including Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Governor Ayo Fayose, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, and others, for what the party describes as persistent anti-party activities.

The decision, ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, signals a clear warning and a renewed commitment to restoring unity, discipline, and a common purpose ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the party leadership, this decisive action underscores the PDP’s intolerance for internal dissent that undermines its cohesion and electoral strategy.

The expelled individuals, according to a statement from the convention, have repeatedly acted in ways that the leadership deems contrary to the party’s interests, stability, and long term vision.

It is significant to note that Ayo Fayose, as part of this purge, is being expelled in conjunction with recognition of his 65th birthday a gesture the party frames as bittersweet, a celebration overshadowed by a firm disciplinary resolution.

This underscores how seriously the PDP is taking internal discipline, even founding or long standing members are not exempt if their actions are judged to threaten the party’s unity.

In making this move, the PDP is sending a strong message to all its stakeholders, ahead of the 2027 elections, the party is prioritizing internal order, loyalty to party doctrines, and a formal structure that rejects factionalism and public acts of insubordination.

This dramatic purge was orchestrated under the watch of Prince Amb (Dr) Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, PDP Southwest Ex-officio, who said in a statement that the PDP must be stronger, more united, and more focused.

As Southwest Ex-officio, I affirm that this decision is not just about punishment but about re-establishing our foundational values.

The convention, convened in Ibadan, is now being hailed by many as a turning point in the party’s efforts to regroup and reassert its organizational integrity.

With these expulsions, party leaders believe the PDP can move forward with a disciplined and coherent structure, ready to contest the 2027 general elections with renewed vigor and unity.
