A 32-year-old woman has shocked medical staff at Matandani Mission Hospital in Neno after delivering a stone like mass weighing 250 grams.
The incident occurred yesterday when the woman, who comes from Chilombo Village under Traditional Authority Chekucheku, arrived at the hospital with her husband.
According to hospital authorities, the woman appeared to be pregnant and was already showing signs that labour had begun.
James Wayile, the hospital’s senior official, confirmed that the couple sought help immediately upon arrival.
Medical staff swiftly took the woman to the maternity ward so that they could assess her condition more closely.
While under observation, she eventually delivered what health workers described as a stone-like object through natural means.
The unusual delivery left staff baffled, prompting further discussions about the possible medical explanation behind the occurrence.
Hospital officials say cases of this nature are extremely rare and require specialised examination.
Wayile explained that the facility was not equipped to carry out advanced diagnostic tests needed to determine the cause of the abnormal mass.
As a result, the woman has been referred to the district hospital for a thorough medical evaluation to establish what exactly happened and ensure she receives proper care.
