By Olayiwola Ibrahim // Famous Catholic Bishop, Mathew Kukah says claims of Christian persecution and genocide in Nigeria are exaggerated and unsupported by credible data.

Speaking at the Knights of St. Mulumba convention in Kaduna, he argued that reports of thousands of churches being burnt yearly are false and not verified by the Catholic Church.

Kukah stressed that genocide is defined by intent, not casualty figures, and warned against misusing the term.

He questioned how Christians can claim persecution when they make up most of Nigeria’s educated population and control a significant share of the economy.

He attributed many challenges facing Christians to internal disunity and urged believers to stand together.

Kukah also said not every killing of a Christian qualifies as martyrdom and urged deeper reflection on such claims.
