Heavy rains cause destruction in Midima, Mulanje

Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds caused significant damage in Mulanje District particularly around Midima near Chinakanaka Market.
Several structures, including unfinished houses were destroyed as roofs were torn off and walls weakened by the severe weather.
A local church near Midima Turn Off was among the hardest hit buildings, with its roof completely ripped off and walls collapsed, scattering bricks and metal sheets across the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the church structure fell within minutes as the winds intensified, raising concerns among residents about safety and the impact of the ongoing rainy season.
The incident occurred on 28 November 2025, leaving the community alarmed by the severity of the storm and its effects on homes and public buildings.
