A 55-year-old man, Timothy Nkhoma who was employed as a driver at St Anne’s Mission Hospital in Nkhotakota District has died after allegedly jumping into the Kaombe River.

The incident has been confirmed by Nkhotakota Police deputy spokesperson, Inspector Chisomo Chuma.

Inspector Chuma said Nkhoma left his home after removing his wristwatch and informed his wife and children not to follow him.

She added that the deceased left behind his driver’s license and slippers on the Kaombe Bridge.

This discovery prompted members of the public, together with police officers, to search for his body in the river.

The search was conducted yesterday and police are continuing with investigations to establish what might have led him to take his life.

Meanwhile, other reports indicate that the hospital had suspended the deceased from work following allegations of theft but after police investigations cleared him of any wrongdoing and advised the hospital to reinstate him this was reportedly not done.
