By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // Lagos // Residents of Lagos State are up in arms over the escalating refuse crisis, with heaps of garbage littering streets across the state.

Areas like Ikotun, Governor Road, Igando, Abaranje, Ijegun, Isolo Road, Oshodi, Mushin, Egbeda, Iyanapaja, Ayobo, Festac, Mile 2, Iyana Iba, and Lagos Island are among the worst-hit.

Citizens complain that LAWMA/PSP officials rarely collect refuse, sometimes going a month without visiting, yet continue to send bills.

It’s like they’re making money from our misery, said one resident.

The situation has sparked outrage, with some slamming Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration, dubbing him “Sanwo Idoti” (Sanwo the Dirty).

LAWMA officials attribute the crisis to lack of dumping sites, citing the closure of the Lasu Iyana Iba Road site and difficulties accessing the Badagry site.

Residents praise former Governor Ambode’s efforts with Visiom Scape, but accuse some officials and stakeholders of sabotaging the initiative.

The Commissioner for Environment and KAI are urged to act against those dumping waste illegally, particularly in Ikotun Egbe and surrounding areas.

A resident also accused KAI officials of taking bribes from market vendors, contributing to the state’s filthy state.

The Lagos State government is called upon to address the crisis, warning that it affects residents’ lives and deters investors.

Affected Areas:

– Ikotun
– Governor Road
– Igando
– Abaranje
– Ijegun
– Isolo Road
– Oshodi
– Mushin
– Egbeda
– Iyanapaja

Calls to Action:

– Residents to take responsibility for cleanliness

The situation demands immediate attention to restore Lagos State’s former glory.
