SECURITY MONITOR NEWS EXPOSES MENACE ON LAGOS FOOTBRIDGES, CALLS FOR URGENT APPEAL TO GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO OLU, COMMISSIONER FOR ENVIRONMENT, COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH, LAGOS STATE
By Kayode Adeyemo // Lagos // A recent video capture by Security Monitor News reveals a disturbing scene on the footbridge opposite NAFDAC, Oshodi, Lagos. The bridge, meant for safe pedestrian passage, has become a haven for area boys and street kids engaging in unsanitary practices, posing a risk to public health.
The footage shows individuals urinating and defecating on the bridge, while others loiter, creating an intimidating atmosphere.
This comes as authorities continue to arrest people for not using the bridges.
Accord to the Reporter, Olayiwiola Ibrahim said that this is a clear example of the menace plaguing Lagos footbridges.
Citing that Citizens are forced to risk their lives on busy roads due to insecurity and poor maintenance of these bridges.
Ibrahim mentioned that the footbridge opposite NAFDAC, Oshodi, is a prime example.
These individuals have turned the bridge into a haven, engaging in unsanitary practices, and posing a risk to public health.
Meanwhile, authorities are arresting people for not using the bridges, despite these conditions and also becomes a menace due to activities of area boys and street kids.
In his remarks, the reporter recorded that there have been reports of robberies on the bridge, further deterring citizens from using it.
Noting that what’s more disturbing is that environmental sanitation teams, tasked with maintaining cleanliness, are reportedly more focused on extorting money from pedestrians than addressing these issues.
We urge the state government to take immediate action:
– Address the security concerns on footbridges.
– Provide adequate maintenance and cleaning.
– Ensure environmental sanitation teams focus on their core duties.
-Create awareness campaigns to promote safe usage of footbridges.
Let’s work together to make Lagos safer and healthier. Ibrahim added.
