By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // As Nigeria hurtles towards the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State faces a critical juncture.

The party’s gubernatorial contest has exposed deep divisions, with some members pushing for Senator Sarafadeen Alli as the consensus candidate, allegedly backed by Dr Zaccheaus Adedeji, who wants his brother to be Alli’s running mate.

However, party loyalists argue that Alli’s late entry into the party (2022) and lack of grassroots connection make him a weak candidate.

They advocate for Oloye Saheed Oladele, citing his intellect, humility, integrity, and broad-based support among youths, elders, and party faithful.

Oladele’s candidacy is seen as a chance for the APC to energize its base, unite factions, and present a compelling alternative to the electorate.

The alleged involvement of the Palace in Ibadan has also raised concerns, with warnings that perceived alignment with a particular aspirant risks diminishing the traditional institution’s neutrality.

Oladele’s loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid is noted, and denying him the ticket could lead to defection and electoral disappointment.

A divided APC in Oyo could undermine broader national objectives, warns Dr. Soji Oyeranmi, a historian and commentator.

The Oyo APC must prioritize competence, credibility, and public appeal to win in 2027.

The choice is clear, Oloye Saheed Oladele. Will the party opt for a proven leader, or risk another defeat?
