GUNMEN KILL BRIDE’S FATHER, MC AT IKOTUN WEDDING AS CULT VIOLENCE ROCKS GOVERNOR ROAD AXIS
By Adeyemo Kayode // Grief and chaos erupted at a wedding ceremony on Oviawe Street, Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos, on April, 2nd, 2026, after suspected cultists stormed the venue and shot dead the bride’s father and the master of ceremonies.
The incident occurred at about 8:10 p.m. at the bride’s family residence, located inward Second Junction and Saint Mary area of Ikotun, during the wedding of Mr. Taiwo’s daughter.
Eyewitnesses said armed men identified as members of the ( Fraternity)invaded the venue.
The assailants allegedly shot the bride’s father at close range in the neck, leading to his instant death.
Tragedy deepened when the hired MC, identified as Victor, was also shot in the head.
Witnesses said the gunshot caused severe head injuries, and he was further attacked with a machete on his throat and jaw. He died on the spot.
Speaking to Adif Media, an eyewitness at the scene, Adeyemo Kayode, said the attackers came with a double-barrel gun and machetes.
After the attack, they were shouting ‘Abracayan, a slogan linked to the cult group, before fleeing the scene, Kayode recounted.
Rising Cult Killings in Governor Road Axis
Kayode further disclosed that between 10 and 12 people have been killed in cult-related violence around the Governor Road axis in the last two monthsHe said reports of the killings have been made to the police.
He also revealed that about two weeks ago, a journalist was attacked by a suspected cultist identified as Sikiru Ishola, alias Binu.
Ishola, said to be a landlord’s son, resides on Owosho Street, adjacent to Oviawe Street where Saturday’s killings occurred.
He is allegedly the Number in his group and holds the title Flamboyant, said to mean he is designated to carry out killings.
Other individuals named by residents as allegedly terrorizing the Governor Road axis include:
Hammed Aribidesi, a.k.a. Ijalo, of Abimbola Soetan Street, Governor Road, Adewale Bus Stop.
Kunle Poison, who residents say has been arrested and imprisoned several times, of Fagbenro Street, off Emmanuel Bus Stop, Governor Road.
John Sera and his younger brother Itua, of Mariam Balogun Street, inward Austina Hotel, Governor Road.
Another suspect known as Poison, of Lasisi Ige Street, inward White House Bus Stop, Governor Road.
Residents said more names are being compiled.
Residents Allege Police Compromise
Community leaders and residents expressed frustration, alleging that when they provide information to the police about the suspects, the identities of informants are often leaked within the community, exposing them to danger.
While we are trying to disclose vital information to the police authorities to arrest them, the police are usually leaking the reporter’s information to people around you, a community chairman who asked not to be named said.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
The Divisional Police Officer for Ikotun Division were very active be reached.
The Lagos State Police Command had recently reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and electoral violence. Residents are now calling for urgent intervention to stop the killings.
