SERAP VERSUS DSS: CACOBAG BACKS SERAP RIGHT TO APPEAL, CONDEMNS DSS HARASSMENT
The Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance CACOBAG stands in unwavering support of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project SERAP in the face of intimidation and harassment by the Department of State Services (DSS) and its supporters.
Injustice to one organisation is an injustice to all of us.
SERAP’s right to appeal the recent ruling is a fundamental aspect of our democracy, and CACOBAG will not stand idly by as this right is threatened.
We commend SERAP’s tireless efforts in fighting corruption and promoting accountability in Nigeria.From exposing corruption in the oil sector to advocating for transparency in government spending, SERAP has been a beacon of hope for Nigerians seeking justice. Their work has led to significant recoveries of stolen funds and has brought perpetrators to book.
We condemn, in the strongest terms, the actions of the DSS in attempting to silence SERAP and stifle dissent. This is a clear attack on the rule of law and an affront to the principles of democracy.
CACOBAG demands:
– The DSS to respect SERAP’s right to appeal and cease all forms of harassment
– An immediate investigation into the conduct of DSS officials involved
– Accountability for those attempting to undermine the judiciary and stifle justice
