By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // LAGOS // In response to growing concerns raised by residents of Ikorodu over rising criminal activities in parts of the area, the Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has inaugurated a Special Tactical Security outfit called the ‘Command Sweepers Squad’ to tackle crime and restore public confidence.
The Squad is a temporary intervention unit set up to address the increase in crime within Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
It comprises officers drawn from the Command’s Tactical Teams, RRS, Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF, alongside personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The team will work collaboratively to combat criminality in Ikorodu and its environs.
The Squad is strategically based in Ijede to ensure rapid deployment and easy access to all parts of Ikorodu for effective crime prevention and response.
To boost operational effectiveness, the Squad has been equipped with patrol vehicles and three (3) Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the Lagos State Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
The Squad has been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to conduct intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property.
The Commissioner of Police assures residents that the operation will be carried out professionally and in line with the rule of law.
