The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is pleased to share the attached press release announcing the 18th Wole Soyinka Centre Media Lecture Series, scheduled for 13 Monday July 2026 in Lagos.
The lecture, themed “Beyond the Ballot: Measuring Democracy Through Security, Welfare, Accountability and Public Trust,” will feature Professor Umaru Pate as keynote speaker and Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa as reviewer of the WSCIJ 2025 Journalism & Civic Space Status Report.
As Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle, the event will provide a platform for critical reflection on whether democracy is delivering meaningful outcomes for citizens through security, welfare, accountability, and public trust. It will also explore the role of journalism in tracking governance performance and strengthening democratic engagement.
