Moro Descendants Development Union Lauds Kwara North LGAs Over PDP Senatorial Ticket, Urges Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Moro Descendants Development Union, MODDU, has expressed profound gratitude to delegates, party leaders, and stakeholders across Kwara North Senatorial District following the emergence of Engr. Iliasu Rotimi Suleiman as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for the Kwara North senatorial seat.

In a press briefing held in Shao on Monday and signed by MODDU President, Prof. Reuben Kehinde Akano, the group described the outcome of the PDP primary as a turning point for Moro people and Kwara North as a whole, saying it marked the end of “years of political marginalization” since the return of democracy in 1999.

Prof. Akano was categorical in stating that MODDU, as the apex socio-cultural organization for all Moro people home and abroad, does not align with any political party. He ranked MODDU alongside other major cultural bodies in the state including those in Ilorin, Offa, Igbomina, and Ekiti.

“Let me make one thing categorically clear: MODDU is a strictly apolitical and non-partisan organization,” he said. “We exist for the development and growth of Moro Local Government Area.”

However, he explained that the decision to stand behind Engr. Suleiman was not partisan but merit-based.
“Our decision to stand firmly behind our son, Engr. Iliasu Rotimi Suleiman, transcends party lines. We are backing him purely because of his exceptional, undeniable track record of service, integrity, and community development. We believe that quality leadership knows no political boundary,” Akano stated.

He further described Suleiman’s emergence under the leadership of PDP chieftain, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as “a rare show of love, solidarity and support” for Moro people.

The MODDU President said the primary election did more than produce a candidate — it restored hope.
“History was not just made during the recent PDP senatorial primary election — hope was reborn. It is a delightful and rejuvenating radiance for the people of Moro and the entire Kwara North senatorial district,” he said.

He commended stakeholders across the four LGAs that make up Kwara North — Edu, Kaiama, Patigi, and Baruten — for what he called their “overwhelming support, votes, and absolute confidence” in Suleiman.

“We thank the delegates, the party leaders, our vibrant youths, our tireless women, and every stakeholder across the length and breadth of Kwara North,” Akano said. “You chose unity over division. You chose progress over stagnation. And because of your courage, this victory belongs to all of us.”

MODDU said the mandate given to Suleiman reflects a collective yearning for “quality representation, inclusive leadership, and sustainable development” in a district that has long battled underdevelopment.

The group assured residents that the trust placed in Suleiman “will never be taken for granted.”
“Engr. Rotimi Suleiman Iliasu is fully committed to repaying your faith with purposeful leadership, accessible representation, deep compassion, and an unwavering dedication to the welfare and progress of every community in Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, and Baruten,” Akano assured.

As attention shifts to the 2027 general elections, MODDU urged all citizens to put party differences aside and rally behind the broader goal of Kwara North unity.
“As we transit into the next phase of this political journey, we call on all citizens — irrespective of party affiliations — to key into the grand vision of Kwara North unity. Together, we must break the jinx of underdevelopment and deprivation that has long bedeviled our senatorial district,” the statement read.

The union concluded with a charge for peace and collective action:
“Let us remain united, peaceful, and fiercely focused. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and secure future for Kwara North. The best days of our district are officially ahead of us.”

The statement ended with prayers for Kwara North, Kwara State, and Nigeria.
