By Wuddeama Manga// ABA โ The Abia State Government has announced a โฆ200 million permit fee for presidential candidates seeking to use billboards, posters and other outdoor advertising materials for the 2027 election campaigns in the state. The new rates were unveiled during a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Abia State Structures for Signages and Advertising Agency, ABSSAA, as part of efforts to regulate political advertising and maintain order during the campaign period.
The approved fee schedule also sets โฆ150 million for governorship candidates, โฆ100 million for senatorial candidates, โฆ50 million for House of Representatives candidates and โฆ20 million for House of Assembly candidates. While the state government said the policy is designed to ensure fair access to advertising spaces and generate sustainable revenue, the Out-of-Home Advertising Association of Nigeria described the charges as excessive, and the Abia chapter of the African Democratic Congress questioned the legal basis for the fees, citing Supreme Court rulings on local government authority over such collections.
