FROM GOAL TO FIRST CLASS: UNILORIN PHYSICS GRADUATE OGUNSANYA SULAIMON EMERGES DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLAR, BEST GRADUATING STUDENT
By Olayiwola Ibrahim // A journey that began with First Class or nothing has ended in excellence. Ogunsanya Sulaimon Adeniran, a graduate of the Department of Physics, University of Ilorin, has emerged both the Departmental Scholar and the Best Graduating Student in his department.
For Sulaimon, the feat was not accidental. From his first day on campus, he set a personal standard to lead academically and impact his community.
I knew the journey would demand more than intelligence; it would require discipline, consistency, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he said. Stating that he also set another standard for myself, to become the Scholar of my Department. I wanted to set the bar, not merely meet it.
That goal materialised in 300 Level after years of prayers, preparation and perseverance. He vowed to remain at the top until graduation — a promise he kept.
ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE
Beyond the classroom, Sulaimon distinguished himself through leadership and professional development.
He served as General Secretary of the Department of Physics in the 2024/2025 academic session and later as Executive President in 2025/2026.
He also earned certificates in Leadership Training and Web Development through the University’s U-Inspire Programme, and participated in the Youth Leadership and Civic Responsibility Conference organised by the Centre for Internationalisation and Strategic Partnership, University of Ilorin, in collaboration with the Centre for Good Leadership and the Aderonke Foundation.
On the global stage, Sulaimon advanced through the Qualification, Semi-Final and Final Rounds of the 2026 Global Quantum Mechanics Challenge, finishing among the top 10% of competitors and top 80% in the Final Round out of over 4,000 finalists.
SPORTS AND SERVICE
His versatility extended to sports, where he helped the Department of Physics win both the Faculty of Physical Sciences League and the Physics Department League as a defender during the 2025/2026 academic session.
THE FIRST CLASS IS A FOUNDATION
Reflecting on the journey, Sulaimon described the First Class honour as proof that the nights of preparation were not wasted, the sacrifices were not meaningless, and the perseverance was never in vain.
I am deeply grateful to Allah for guiding me through every stage of this journey, he said.
From the very first day, I set the goal. I pursued the standard. I became the Scholar. I promised myself I would remain there. And today, I can look back and say that i kept that promise.
He added that the achievement is not a destination but a foundation for greater learning, responsibility and impact.
Furthermore, he stated his Parents were his foundation. They play so much roles in him to concentrate more on his studies, waking him up for studying at the dusky, which earn him master classes and reading books. Adding that the encouragement he got under his parent was a tantamount to his success.

He said, from nothing to something, his parent struggled to send him to school after all the mocking from people thinking they couldn’t reach the milestone. And here today Allah has proven that he never forsake his families by compensating him as a First Class Holder. He call on all meaningful private sector, governmental agencies and institutions, urging that he would be glad to work with them and also add his quota towards the growth of any organization’s he found himself.
From an undergraduate with a goal to a graduate with a purpose, he concluded. Alhamdulillah, always.
The University of Ilorin community has hailed Sulaimon’s story as an inspiration to students, proof that discipline, faith and consistency can turn ambition into reality.
