World Teachers Day: NUT Lauds Governor Ododo over Kogi Teachers ‘Welfare
Chairman Kogi State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Abayomi Ayoola says the celebration of World Teachers Day is to amplify the nobility and importance of the profession.
Comrade Ayoola stated this in Lokoja while interacting with newsmen prior to the celebration slated for Monday next week.
He said the recognition of the day began in 1966 when both United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and International Labour Organisations (ILO), held a meeting in France to chat the course for an improved status of teachers as well as advocacy for quality education.
The NUT Chairman explained that about a hundred countries adopt October fifth for the celebration noting that the event is equally tailored towards raising the global status of teachers.
He emphasized that teachers in Kogi State are greatful for the harmonious relationship with the state government saying, the celebration in the past is beclouded with prayers and agitation for positive considerations of teachers welfare.
Comrade Ayoola expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his compassionate disposition towards the welfare of educators, emphasizing that promotions are backed with finance and one hundred percent payments of salaries of teachers in both state and local government.
He however appealed for the consideration of
thirteen months salary payments in view of the current economic realities and to cushion effect of subsidy removal.
On line up of activities for the day, the NUT Boss said the occasion will create avenue for dialogue and reignition of passion and pride of educators in their chosen careers.
He maintained that the event will take place at the Teachers Guest House by ten o’ clock in the morning.
