By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Lagos State Police Command confirms the tragic incident involving ASP Omotayo Olajide, which led to the death of a little girl, Omole Taiwo, and left another girl injured in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle on Thursday, 5th November 2026, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

According to preliminary investigation, the officer had been deployed to the area following a distress call over a violent clash between two rival groups — the Nosamu Boys and the Alayabiagba Boys — over toll collection.

The groups were said to be armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

In the course of the operation, ASP Olajide discharged his firearm and the bullet tragically struck the two girls.

Both victims were immediately rushed to the Ajeromi General Hospital.

One was later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she unfortunately passed away.

The second girl is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition.

The Command is deeply saddened by this painful loss of an innocent life and shares in the grief of the bereaved family.

ASP Olajide has been disarmed and detained, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for a thorough, impartial and discreet investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine appropriate disciplinary and legal actions.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has visited the bereaved family to personally commiserate with them.

He assured the family that the matter will be investigated with the highest level of professionalism, transparency and accountability, and that justice will be served. No officer found culpable will be shielded.

The Command appeals to members of the public with useful information that can assist the investigation to come forward at the nearest police station or contact the Police Public Relations Department.

The Command once again extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. May her soul rest in peace.
