NYCN Hails Nigerian Media Over Coverage of Mace Theft Saga
“No matter the situation in the country, Nigerian youths should not
allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians who only like to
engage them in unlawful and unwholesome activities.
“Youths should beam their searchlights on the under performing,
corrupt, arrogant and selfish elected law makers to vote them out by
2019,’’Nwaka said.
He described the invasion of the Senate and snatching of the mace, the
symbol of legislative authority as a treasonable act that should not
be treated with levity.
The NYCN director, however, commended the doggedness of the media for
capturing the entire scenario.
He also commended Nigerians for strongly condemning the invasion and
the swift effort of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to recover the mace
.
He said it was important for relevant security agencies to thoroughly
investigate the matter, so the law could take its course on any body
found culpable in the entire act.
Nwaka said the national assembly could also suspend the issue of
election sequence and focus more on passage of the budget and making
of bills to empower Nigerians, who elected them into the chamber.
He also urged the leadership of the assembly to desist from incessant
suspension of law makers, this he said would reduce unnecessary
bickering among members and reduce further heating of the polity.
He advised that the alleged young men who had guts to accompany a
serving Senator to cause disruption should be punished to serve as
deterrents to other people.
“The security officers on duty should also be queried and be posted
out of their current duty post,’’ he concluded.
