By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // The Federal Government’s newly installed CCTV surveillance system on the Third Mainland Bridge has led to the arrest of three suspected vandals caught removing road safety equipment.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, on Thursday paraded the suspects alongside police officers, saying they were captured in real time while allegedly stealing cat-eye reflective lights (solar road studs) mounted on the bridge.

The 156 cat-eye reflective lights which are meant to enhance the aesthetic of the road were being pried opened by the 3 vandals on the Third Mainland Bridge and were caught in real time by the CCTV monitoring team

The vandals who claimed to be scavengers popularly called “Bola” failed to give coherent answers to the questions directed at them.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, while appreciating the police for their diligence expressed his discomfort over the indifferent attitude of some Nigerians towards public infrastructure.

Umahi also condemned the appalling indiscipline of Nigerians on the temporarily opened section of the coastal highway which had led to the death of a construction worker on the corridor.

The Minister directed the State controller of Works to ensure the vandals are prosecuted and warned intending offenders that the Eagle Eye on the Third Mainland Bridge is ready to thwart their nefarious activities.
