Teachers Deserve Better Welfare’, Says Kogi NUT Chairman Aderemi

Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Thomas Aderemi, has called for more attention to on teacher’s welfare.

Comrade Aderemi made the appeal in his welcome address in commemoration of the ‘World Teachers Day’s held at the Teacher’s House in Lokoja.

He said primary school teachers need to be properly equipped for effective teaching and learning.

Comrade Aderemi who expressed appreciation to Governor Yahaya Bello for the recent increament of their salaries from  twenty – five to fifty-four percent noted that the development has boosted the morale of primary school teachers.

He listed the current challenges being faced by the profession to include, inadequate infrastructural materials, non implementation of full minimum wage, delayed in the harmonisation of salary pay roll to include all the cleared staff , computation and payment of outstanding leave grants among others.

In his paper presentation, the guest speaker, Doctor   Ibrahim Ismaila from the Federal College of Education, Okene, said the celebration with the Theme ” the right to education means the right to a qualified teachers” was a reminder  to the global community to maintain standard in our educational system.

Doctor Ismaila appealed for the establishment of the National Teachers Salaries Commission as well as improving and aiding the quality supervising body for teaching professional in order to attain the global standard expected in that regards.
