Buhari Should Walk His Talk By Restructuring Nigeria Now or Never’, -COSEG, Other Yoruba Groups
A call has gone to president Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that Nigeria is restructured inorder to live up to his promises of a new Nigeria while campaigning for the vote of the people and that walking the talk will ultimately see the country to progress.
This call was made on Friday in Lagos by some notable Yoruba groups, led by the umbrella body of self determination groups ,the Coalition of Oodua Self determination Groups (COSEG ) at an intra ethnic nationality round table where the state of the nation was x-rayed, especially the call for republics by various ethnic groups.
The groups noted the call for restructuring asbthe best way out of the present upheavals being witnessed in the country.
Aside COSEG, other groups that participated at the parley include Yoruba Oodua movement(YOM) Yoruba fellowship for good governance( YFGG), oodua Renaissance Movement (ORM) and Yoruba Collectives strongly advised the Governors to take the issue of security in their states seriously and ensure peace reigns in their domains especially in the south west.
According to the communique signed by chairmen of the groups at the end of the meeting ,which include Comrades Dayo Ogunlana and Lanre Owoshen stated that Coseg and other Yoruba nationalist groups urge president Buhari to act not only as president ,but also like a stateman he has been known for before he became president, by urgently liasing with the leadership of the National Assembly to convoke a National conference where restructuring of the polity will be the major reason.
They disclosed that they show solidarity with the end SARS movements and share their concerns about the rot in police formations across the country, while also clearly mentioning that there is decay in all spheres of governance in Nigeria and stating that this has been there for a long time predating the assumption of president Buhari and this has been difficult to change.
Furthermore”we commend the Lagos State Government for the leadership role being presently played in Nigeria and this is equally being expressed with their identification with the end SARS protest , the recent COVID19 performance and Governor Sanwoolu determination to continue his predessesor programs e.g oshodi bus terminal, while also urging governors of southwest states like oyo,Osun etc to emulate this matured and progressive trait from Lagos, stating that Wasting scarce resources to undo or decimitate predecessors entrenched programs and popularity is alien to omoluabi ethos.
The groups also warn the two major political parties in Nigeria to thread softly as their internal wranglings are overheating the polity and can lead to political crisis of monumental proportion.
The Yoruba groups equally appealed to the politicians from the North that they should avoid overheating the polity with thier tacit succession plan and should therefore abandon the secret agenda of ruling again after president Buhari, knowinfully that it’s the turn of the South to be president in 2023, while also acknowledging the roles bieng played by all regions of the south in stabilizing Nigeria because one must always reap bountifully where it sows.
The groups thank all religious leaders, our highly respected obas, opinion moulders, sincere activists and various concerned Nigerians who have of recent identified with tag of restructuring of the polity. These are sincere Leaders and patriotic Nigerians who want the best for the country, the groups said.
Finally ,the groups noted that the economy of Nigeria can grow positively, while poverty which is on the rise in Nigeria can be best tackled if sound and workable structure can be put on ground. Moreover the best president with good qualities, wherewithal with mind of fairness and justice cannot succeed in Nigeria with the way Nigeria its presently structured” A structure that promotes disorderliness, facism and poverty will only have one end goal, which is not other than disintegration of the country. We urge President Buhari to show his usual capacity by doing the needful and write his name in gold in his quest to change and rewrite the name of Nigeria to a country well respected in the comity of Nations. A country we will all be proud of. “
