Group Supports Ekiti School Girls with Sanitary Pads; ‘Ekiti State Government is ahead of many States on sanitary pads education’
By Gboyega Adeoye/ADO-EKITI// In a bid to advocate for usage of Sanitary Pads among young girls in Nigeria, as a way to, promoting hygienic menstrual periods, particularly by the indigents, Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) (Nigeria), in collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Development and Sustainability (CIKDAS), has distributed free sanitary pads to selected School girls in Ekiti State.
Leading the team of Community Advocates for the exercise, which birthed in seven different Schools in Ekiti State, Princess Jumoke Owoola, the Project Director of CIKDAS, said that the inability of the girls to have free access to sanitary pads has posed a bigger problems on many occasion, and efforts from organizations like AHF (Nigeria) is one of the best ways to solve the problem.
“Though Ekiti State Government is ahead of many States on sanitary pads education and free supply of pads to those in need, getting supports from organizations and interventions of NGOs’ will go a long way in realizing the desired efforts” Princess Owoola declared
In a telephone chat, Mr. Steve Aborisade, who is the AHF (Nigeria) Advocacy and Marketing manager, revealed that his organization is out to highlight the importance of menstrual hygiene management with the sole purpose of providing young females of menstruating age with free sanitary pads.
Going further, Aborisade also remarked that there is need to support young girls and women in order to improve healthy life and sanitary condition.
In all, seven Schools were visited and 240 students benefited. Those opportuned to get the free sanitary pads were grateful to AHF (Nigeria) for reaching the rural areas too.
One of the girls who was menstruating during the advocacy visit was happy that the timely intervention would not just saved her pocket money for the month, but would go a long way in making charity work a priority in the journey of her life.
“Yes, I was given just a packet that will last me for this month. The assurance that I will have my pocket money intact and maintain a hygienic period will be evergreen in my memory,” she enthused
