NAKOSS ELECTIONS: Almaruf Suleiman Rallies for Support, Promises Improved Welfare,Bursary
Comrade Almaruf Suleiman has echoed his determination to slog it out with other contenders in the next election of the National Association of Kogi State Students’ election by February next year.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Kokoja, the Kogi born activist and the current president of the UniAbuja chapter of NAKOSS where he is currently pursuing his post graduate degree, said he is confident that he will garner the needed support and solidarity that will enabled him emerged victorious.
He explained that Unionism was part of his early life in Yagba East Local Government Area where he started his educational career and affirmed that he derived fulfillment in championing the cause of the oppressed.
His words;”the essence of unionism is to fight for the common interest of the group to ensure the the representation of the members at all levels so that when ever an individual in the group sneezes, others catch cold”.
Speaking on the criteria that warrants his decision to jostle for the presidential position, Comrade Almaruf said NAKOSS as a student’s Union is being underestimated and impoverished.
According to him, the strength of a nation lies in the intellectual capabilities of its youths pointing out that the student union can be utilised as a platform towards the realisation of the country’s economic recovery.
He assured that he will will work collaboratively with relevant authorities to promote unity, peace and progress that are germane to the success of any nation.
He decried the political structure in the country which usually produce opportunistic and despotic leaders who promote ethnic hegemony and emphasised that leadership should cut across all strata of lives to ensure peace and equitable distribution of resources in a diversified society.
Comrade Almaruf said the Uniabuja Chapter of the Association has been in existence for twenty seven years pointing out that he is the only one who has been elected as the president from the western senatorial district of the State.
He thanked his predecessors who have assisted him on his quest saying the likes of Comrade Suleiman Hassan , Doctor Kamardeen, Bayo Adegbayo have assisted in one way or the other.
Speaking on areas he will concentrate on if he emerged victorious, Comrade Abdulmaruf listed them to include the struggle for budgetary provision for bursary allowance, promotion of the State’s cultural heritage, the sustenance of the congress of the union, and activities that will foster unity and intellectualism.
