Nigerian Military Forces have Neutralized at least 25 Fighters Affiliated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during Coordinated Ground and Air Operations in Northeastern Borno State, Authorities said Sunday.
By Morris Nor// According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, spokesperson for the Theatre Command, troops launched targeted offensives against ISWAP positions in the Limankara and Kukawa areas of Borno.
“During the ensuing firefight, 15 terrorists were neutralized while scores fled with gunshot wounds,” Uba said in a statement.
He added that aerial surveillance units tracked militants attempting to escape on five motorcycles. A subsequent precision airstrike neutralized an additional 10 fighters.
Military officials said the operations also led to the destruction of large defensive and logistics structures used by the group. Two vehicles, multiple weapons, and a significant cache of ammunition were recovered from the sites.
Nigeria has faced prolonged insecurity in parts of the northeast due to insurgent activities by Boko Haram and its offshoot, ISWAP. Security forces continue to carry out sustained operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring stability to affected communities.
