Blood on Our Soil Again: Borno Bombings Expose Government Failure and Empty Security Promises

If citizens are no longer safe in fortified cities, where exactly is safe?

The attention of *Engr. Obi Njoku* has been drawn to the horrifying series of bomb blasts that struck Maiduguri, Borno State, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent Nigerian lives and leaving scores injured.

Reports confirm that multiple coordinated explosions* hit crowded civilian locations including markets and a hospital killing at least 23 people and injuring over 100 others in what is widely believed to be a suspected suicide bombing attack.

This is not just another tragic incident. This is a damning indictment of a failed security architecture.*

For years, Nigerians have been told that insurgency has been “technically defeated.” Yet today, terrorists still have the capacity to strike at the heart of a major city like Maiduguri once considered one of the most secured locations in the North-East.

The question every Nigerian must now ask is simple:
If citizens are no longer safe in fortified cities, where exactly is safe?

Even more troubling is the timing of this attack during a period of religious observance, when families gathered in peace only to be met with violence, fear, and death. This is unacceptable.

The continued resurgence of terrorist attacks in Borno State is clear evidence that *the current administration has failed to provide the most basic responsibility of government: the protection of lives and property.*

While Nigerians are burying their dead, the federal government continues to issue routine condemnations that have become *predictable, repetitive, and meaningless*.

Condemnation is not leadership.
Statements are not security.
Sympathy is not strategy.

Nigeria deserves more than *press releases after mass killings*. Nigerians deserve a government that prevents these tragedies—not one that merely reacts to them.

It is deeply concerning that despite repeated warnings and increasing attacks on both civilians and military formations in recent weeks, there appears to have been *no proactive intelligence or preventive action strong enough to stop this carnage*.

This raises serious questions about:

* The effectiveness of Nigeria’s intelligence network
* The coordination among security agencies
* The political will to confront insecurity without propaganda

We must say it clearly:
*Lives are being lost because leadership has failed.*

We call on the Federal Government to:

1. Stop the culture of denial and acknowledge the worsening security situation.
2. Immediately overhaul the nation’s security strategy with accountability at all levels.
3. Provide transparent updates to Nigerians not recycled assurances.
4. Prioritize the protection of citizens over political optics and propaganda.

Nigeria cannot continue on this dangerous path where mass killings are normalized and quickly forgotten.

Every life lost in Borno is a reminder that *Nigeria is bleeding and those in power must be held accountable.*

The people of Borno State and indeed all Nigerians deserve safety, dignity, and a government that truly works for them.

*Signed:*
*Engr. Obi Njoku*
