By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has again demonstrated its commitment to public safety and emergency response with the successful rescue and immediate evacuation of a female pedestrian who suffered fractures to her arm and leg after being hit by a fleeing motorist at EFF Bus Stop inward Marwa, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

The incident occurred earlier today when an unidentified driver reportedly struck the victim and fled the scene, leaving her vulnerable and unattended on the busy expressway.

LASTMA officers, who were on duty managing traffic flow in the area, quickly responded.

They secured the victim from further harm, moved her safely off the carriageway, and alerted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) without delay.

At the same time, the officers put traffic control measures in place to prevent secondary accidents and keep vehicles moving.

Through effective inter-agency collaboration, LASAMBUS personnel arrived promptly and conveyed the victim to the General Hospital, Odan, for detailed medical assessment and urgent treatment.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep concern over the rising cases of hit-and-run accidents, describing the act as both morally wrong and a violation of the law.

He restated the Authority’s resolve to continue safeguarding lives and property through proactive traffic management and rapid emergency response across Lagos.

According to Bakare-Oki, Every road user has a civic and moral duty to protect human life.

Leaving the scene of an accident after injuring another person is not only irresponsible, but also a serious offence against humanity and the law.

The General Manager also praised the quick coordination between LASTMA officers and LASAMBUS staff, noting that their joint effort ensured the victim received timely care and that traffic along the corridor returned to normal without delay.

LASTMA therefore appeals to all motorists to drive with caution, obey traffic laws at all times, and report any accident or emergency through the appropriate channels so authorities can respond swiftly.
