CBN freezes banks’ account linked to terror financing firms
Cardoso: CBN Governor
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed all banks and financial institutions to immediately freeze accounts linked to individuals and entities suspected of financing terrorism.
The directive follows the designation of several persons and organizations by relevant authorities over alleged involvement in terrorism financing and related activities.
According to the CBN, financial institutions are required to identify and place restrictions on all accounts associated with the listed suspects without delay, in line with Nigeria’s anti-terrorism financing laws and international obligations.
The apex bank also instructed banks to report compliance actions to the appropriate regulatory and security agencies, while ensuring that any assets connected to the designated individuals or entities remain inaccessible.
